WWE: Jack Swagger may be next in line to face Alberto Del Rio

Published 4 Comments

After taking the United States Title from John Cena and sending him on his merry way, it looks like Alberto Del Rio might be facing another familiar foe for said strap.

Jack Swagger confronted both Del Rio and his former manager Zeb Colter on Monday night, asking about the unorthodox union of the two heel superstars. It was Colter and Swagger who feuded with Del Rio prior to his injury when the Mexican Aristocrat and Colter changed roles in the middle of their confrontation.

Now, with the two on the same side, have they become public enemy Number 1 for Swagger and furthermore, would this feud serve as a holding pattern until John Cena returns to the ring - presumably for WWE TLC in December.

By the way, TLC is being held in Cena's home town of Boston this year. With plunging ratings, you figure out how important the 15-time world champion's return is to the ring.

Filler Feud

I see the connection to this angle, but given that Swagger has been away from the WWE himself, it will hard for the company to make this angle anything more than filler. It doesn't say a whole lot for the US Title right now, especially when there is talent on the roster to challenge Del Rio for the strap.

Personally, if anyone is listening, I'd love to see Damien Sandow get a shot at the belt and work a program at the pay-per-view. It would certainly be more entertaining than seeing a robotic Swagger in the ring.

Cena's Return

The move almost guarantees that Cena will look to reclaim his title once he returns. As of now, it is odd the company has made no mention on television about Cena's absence and probably will not until his triumphant return sometime in the beginning of the month. There is still some question and controversy surrounding Del Rio's move to WWE, and that is making more Internet news that what is happening with the US Title.

If WWE is planning to have someone else challenge for Del Rio's title, it remains as much a mystery as when he first appeared at Hell in a Cell two weeks ago.
