Arena has his say on Gerrard
Many Liverpool supporters became overwhelmed with excitement yesterday when the rumour mill starting producing reports that Steven Gerrard was bound for an Anfield return.
The news isn’t nearly so rosy today, however, with LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena having claimed that the idea of Gerrard playing for Liverpool again is ridiculous.
It was never confirmed that the former Anfield captain would play for the Reds this year anyway, rather speculated that Klopp wanted him to train while the MLS is in its off-season.
In any case Arena said he doesn’t believe talk of the return is at all accurate though he has no problem with Gerrard keeping fit at Melwood.
“I don’t believe it is at all accurate,” Arena said, when asked about Gerrard's links with Liverpool.
“There’s not any truth to any of this. It’s ridiculous.”
Then, when quizzed on the possibility of Gerrard training under Klopp, Arena said: “Of course. Why not?”
There are plenty of fans who want to see Gerrard make a comeback on Merseyside, that's for sure:
Hamann warns against return
Sticking with that theme, former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann has warned Klopp not to sign Gerrard on loan if he has the chance.
The German said he wasn’t even sure having the legend train with them was a good idea, as it will bring about constant speculation the club doesn’t need.
Klopp the comic
And to finish, Klopp gave a comical response to a journalist who asked what team he would be deploying in the Europa League fixture with Rubin Kazan tonight.
The emphasis was centered around whether or not fans would see a similar side to the one Klopp used to great effect at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. The German coach, typically, began his answer with a hearty laugh, before adding a deadpan ‘yes’ at the end.
