Paris Saint-Germain are growingly confident they will seal a deal for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo despite claims that the 30-year-old is "dreaming" of a return to Manchester United.

Guillem Balague, who has written Ronaldo's upcoming biography, used the book to claim that Ronaldo would love nothing more than to return to Old Trafford. The Portuguese left in the prime of his career in 2009 and remains a legendary figure amongst United fans.

But a move back to Manchester is fraught with all sorts of complications, not least the fact that the manager and philosophy of the club have both changed since he departed for a world-record £80million.

Florentino Perez, who has had to live with the fact that Ronaldo was brought to the club under his predecessor, Ramon Calderon, seems ready to let Real Madrid's all-time top scorer leave next summer and PSG have worked hard to make sure they are in pole position.

According to the Sun, the Los Blancos president has held meetings with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Al Thani, to discuss a £100m transfer. Not only that, but Ronaldo appeared to be more than cosy with PSG officials when Real Madrid played them on Tuesday.

Ronaldo whispered into Laurent Blanc's ear and, according to the same report, winked at PSG owner Nasser Al Khelaifi. If anything, the provocative actions were an invitation for the media to speculate.

That slap

The Sun also claim that Ronaldo was less than impressed with Perez's decision to confront him over an interview he conducted with German manager Kicker. Ronaldo had refused to commit his future to Real in that interview and Perz wanted an explanation.

Their relationship has always seemed fractured at best, and it is inevitable that Ronaldo will not be allowed to retire in the Spanish capital even if he wanted to.
