Detroit Lions fire Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand after terrible start - NFL/NBA round-up

Published 2 Comments

The owner of the Detroit Lions, Martha Ford, has confirmed the franchise’s decision to fire both GM Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand, following the team’s poor start to the new season. The Lions have won just once in eight games this campaign - that victory being a fairly tight affair against Chicago - and the clock has wound down with regards to the chances on offer for those with the most responsibility. Both Mayhew and Lewand have been given their marching orders, Ford confirmed yesterday - Sheldon White will take over as interim general manager, while Allison Maki is the new COO. In the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks have signed Rick Carlisle to a new five-year deal - one that has the potential to keep him with the franchise until 2022. As per NBA.com, the contract extension is said to be worth around $35million, although the terms haven’t been released under any official blanket. This season marks Carlisle’s eighth in charge of the Mavs.
