Is diving cheating or part of the modern game?

There has been a long-standing debate regarding 'diving' that appears to plague our 'beautiful game'.

Is this part of the game or is this cheating that should be punished more severely than a yellow card? A possibility of winning a penalty is worth the risk if they know that a yellow card is the worst punishment a player can receive.

The modern game today is so fast-paced and officials are forced to make a decision in a split-second, often resulting in the wrong call from time to time.

Over the years, some players have almost made a name for themselves for doing such thing, Rivaldo, Luis Suarez and Ashley Young to name a few.

The latter is the example currently in the spotlight and one worth taking an extra look at.

Young has sparked controversy on more than one occasion after taking a tumble or two. He appears to have perfected the ability to leave a leg in somewhere and throw his entire body over his own shoulder, something Tom Daley would be incredibly proud of.

In full motion, it looks like a stone wall foul/free kick but, if you break it down during replays it becomes clear he jumps before contact is made or leaves a trailing leg out in an attempt to gain an advantage. Scarily, this is something other players are picking up on and trying to use to better themselves and their team.

Some would argue the influx of foreign players started this, using the excuse that the culture where they come from is more lenient on diving. English players have now adapted to the: "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality.

So is this acceptable? Unfortunately, with the stakes ever increasing, sportsmanship is quickly being muscled out of the game.

It is the 89th minute for your country, World Cup Final with the scores locked at 1-1 and Ashley Young is approaching the penalty area at full speed, then comes the tackle/contact.

Should you encourage a theatrical dive or shout at him for not going to ground and winning a penalty?

What can we do? Deduct points? Introduce a sin bin?
