With Seth Rollins out for up to nine months, the WWE have kicked off a tournament, which will conclude at Survivor Series, to select a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
The favorite to win this tournament is Roman Reigns, as he has been built on this path towards the championship as the number one contender before Rollins was forced out with a knee injury, but that might not be the case.
Cageside Seats has reported: "Even though there were plans for Roman Reigns to beat Seth Rollins at Survivor Series prior to Rollins' injury, Wrestling Observer is saying that he's not a lock to win the tournament. WWE is concerned about an imbalance of heels and faces, and doesn't think there's a heel strong enough to challenge Roman as champ."

This is definitely true, as besides from Rollins, there were no real top full-time heel replacements for The Architect visible in the company right now for the months ahead. Kevin Owens and Alberto Del Rio are only mid-card heels. You could argue Brock Lesnar could fill the void, but he isn't a full-time wrestler.
Maybe you could say Triple H, but he hasn't wrestled consistently in the ring for a long time. He could be a filler until a true top heel is built up by the WWE, but it would be strange to see that happen in my opinion.
Indications towards another face in the WWE selling out were shown on Raw last time when The Game asked The Big Dog to 'sell-out' in order to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion the easy way. Reigns declined, meaning the door of opportunity is open to someone else.
That person could well be Dean Ambrose if you think about it. He's on the other side of the tournament bracket, so he and Reigns can't meet until the final at Survivor Series. He has constantly been in the shadows of his former Shield-brother and he wants the championship as much as Reigns. Frustration because of this could be one of the reasons why he turns heel, for an easier route to glory.
Triple H could secretly provide Ambrose with the opportunity for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, screw over Reigns in the final at Survivor Series, and we could start to build The Lunatic Fringe as the top heel in the company until the return of Rollins or even beyond that.
One thing is for sure, the injury of Rollins has opened up so many possible avenues for Survivor Series, and it could make it one of the most exciting and fun to watch pay-per-views of the year. A Reigns win is one possibility, but it isn't the only road which the WWE has to travel down to make this a good event.
