Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes it may be easier to sign Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie than pursue Southampton ace Sadio Mane.
This has been reported by The Sun, who claim that the Dutch chief is eyeing a shock move for Ritchie as he goes in search of improving the club's options out wide.
Ritchie, 26, has gone from strength-to-strength at the Cherries, but a move to Old Trafford would come as a major surprise at this stage of his career.

A scorer of 15 Championship goals last season, the Scotland international played a key role as his side secured promotion to England's elite division. It appears, then, that Van Gaal is interested in bringing him to Manchester as an alternative to Saints ace Mane.
The same report from The Sun claims that Southampton have placed a huge £30 million price tag on the Senegalese wide-man, so it appears that United could instead press ahead with a move for Ritchie.
Let's be honest, this transfer claim from The Sun is a strange one. United need wingers, of course, but is Ritchie really the man to inspire them to a title challenge? Probably not.
The Red Devils would be better off recalling youngster Adnan Januzaj from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. The Belgium international has endured a tricky time in the Bundesliga, failing to secure himself a regular role under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel.
Surely, Van Gaal won't swoop for a 26-year-old who is fairly unproven at the highest level. Stranger things have happened, but the signing of Ritchie would represent one of the more random transfers of the January window.
