Bayer Leverkusen show some love for David de Gea’s comments on Chicharito

Published 10 Comments

Bayer Leverkusen’s official Twitter account has responded to David de Gea’s latest comment on Javier Hernandez, who was described as one of the world’s best goalscorers by his former Manchester United teammate this week.

Chicharito has scored eight goals in his last six matches for the German club, who he signed for in a £7.3 million deal from United in the summer, and De Gea said it was great to see his close friend enjoying his football again.

The Spanish goalkeeper also admitted that he misses Hernandez, but United’s loss has been Leverkusen’s gain - and the Bundesliga outfit are delighted to have him at the BayArena.

Replying to a post from @101GreatGoals, which featured a photo of De Gea saying “the whole world knows” how good Chicharito is as a goalscorer, Bayer Leverkusen tweeted with an image of the Mexico international celebrating a goal alongside the caption: “@CH14_ [Hernandez’s official Twitter account] We just can't get enough of this! 💪 #stärkebayer”

Leverkusen and the club’s fans have clearly fallen in love with Chicharito, who was discarded by Louis van Gaal at the end of the summer transfer window.

Some fans still disappointed Chicharito waa sold

Some Manchester United supporters were upset with the decision to sell Hernandez at the time and many of them still believe Van Gaal should have kept the 27-year-old as back-up for Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

Chicharito was a fan favourite at Old Trafford thanks to his goals during his first three seasons with the Red Devils, but things began to turn sour for the Mexican after Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.

He often found himself on the subs’ bench under David Moyes while it was patently clear that Van Gaal wasn’t a fan.

Van Gaal made a mistake

But with his side struggling to score goals, the current United boss may feel - although he’s unlikely to admit it - that he made a mistake.
