NXT's slogan is "The Future is Now" but if WWE truly believed that the future they were offering was good enough, why are they still so reliant on the past?
The Dudley Boys return a few months ago, The Undertaker having to return and play a bigger role in WWE TV, The Rock is being rumoured to be set for a return and Alberto Del Rio was the man to finally dethrone John Cena last month, when any NXT superstar would have jumped at the opportunity. All of these are examples of WWE's reliance on the past.
WHY IS THERE SUCH A RELIANCE ON THE PAST?
Whenever WWE are in some sort of crisis, they always call upon talent they know from years ago rather than allowing their current stars to prove their worth.

WWE prefer to allow "Stars of yesterday" to come back and headline the show.

Triple H vs The Rock has been building for a while, but it is a match that no one really wants to see. We've seen The Rock at every WrestleMania for the past few years, why do we need to see him again?
MORE CREATIVITY WITH THE STARS THEY HAVE?
Fans would be happy to see storylines between the NXT stars play out at WrestleMania rather than past stars returning.
This is why NXT Brooklyn sold out in front of a packed crowd because the Universe believes in the product, it believes in the future and it believes that these are the next generation of men and women to bring in a new era in WWE.
These stars are performing every week at Full Sail and they are doing so at every live event that they are a part of, so why are they not connecting on the main roster? Why are stars like The Ascension, Neville, Bo Dallas and Becky Lynch failing to connect with the crowd like they did in NXT?
Maybe the issue right now is that the creative team are relying so much on past stars that they are forgetting the talent they already have. They are taking a lot of their current stars for granted and at some point the past stars will run out and they will only have the future ones to turn to.
