Mark Lawrenson is confused why some Liverpool supporters reacted well to the news that James Milner would miss the match against Crystal Palace before the international break.
The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in the Europa League win over Rubin Kazan and was subsequently forced to miss Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture, which Palace won 2-1 at Anfield.
Prior to that match, some members of the Anfield faithful took to Twitter to express their delight with the news Milner had been ruled out - and it’s fair to say Lawrenson is less-than-impressed with that type of reaction.

“His absence from Liverpool's game against Crystal Palace was greeted with strange enthusiasm from some sections of the support,” the BBC Sport pundit told the Liverpool Echo. “I don't get that. I don't know why you could ever be glad Milner is not available.
“There's no reason to celebrate Milner being out. He will have a big part to play for us, this season and beyond.”
The tweets from Liverpool fans
Here are the tweets that Lawrenson was referring to…
Milner is a manager's dream
Most Liverpool fans were pleasantly surprised when news broke that Milner had been signed on a free transfer from Manchester City in June.
The 29-year-old is one of the hardest-working players in the Premier League and never let City, or any of his former clubs, down through a lack of effort.
The Leeds-born midfielder is a manager’s dream: capable of playing in multiple positions and happy to help out his team wherever required. It’s one of the key reasons Brendan Rodgers was so keen to bring him to Anfield.
Milner needs support of Liverpool fans
It’s true that Milner has flattered to deceive since joining the Reds, but it shouldn’t be too much longer before he’s producing consistent performances on the pitch once again.
However, in order for that to happen, he’ll need the support from his fans.
