It’s one of the most bizarre ‘exclusives’ of 2015: Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, the world’s best footballer, is open to a move to the Premier League after falling foul of the tax authorities in Spain and would prefer a move to Arsenal - as long as they agree to pay him £600,000-a-week.
Yes, that is not a typo. Six-hundred thousand pounds every single week.
This is according to the Daily Star’s chief football writer David Woods, who claims Messi wants £18 million-a-year after tax and prefers a move to London, striking a blow to the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United.

What a load of....
There are so many questions that need to be asked about the validity of this story.
While the Daily Star might not be that far wide of the mark with the four-time Ballon d’Or winner’s astronomical wage demands, why on earth would he prefer to join Arsenal - a club that haven’t won their domestic league title since 2004 and have never landed their hands on the European Cup.
Chelsea would surely make more sense if he preferred a move to the English capital. Not only do they have more money for wages but one of his closest friends, Cesc Fabregas, currently plies his trade at Stamford Bridge. Pedro does, too.
Arsenal simply can’t afford Messi and, unfortunately for the Gunners’ faithful, it’s highly unlikely that he would prefer a move to the Emirates over the likes of United, City or Chelsea.
It’s probably best for Arsenal fans to forget this story ever happened.
