Napoli have received a huge boost after Dries Mertens' agent confirmed that the midfielder has no plans of leaving the club in the new year.
The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move away from Serie A, with Premier League outfit Liverpool interested, but the Reds have been dealt a setback after Mertens' agent confirmed there are no intentions of his client leaving Italy.
The 28-year-old has been at Napoli since 2013, making 71 Serie A appearances in those two years, and scoring 18 league goals along the way.

Mertens moved to Napoli after agreeing to leave Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, and has previously admitted that a move to the Premier League would be a challenge he's interested in.
Speaking back in September, Mertens admitted that a move to England would be a good challenge for him, but was quick to remind people about his contract in Italy, which expires in 2018.
"The Premier League would be a good challenge," he told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
"I have a contract until 2018, but maybe other options will appear then."
Agent Confirms No Move
Despite admitting that the Premier League may interest him, his agent has recently spoken out about a possible transfer, and he's confirmed that there are no plans to move in the near-future.
Soren Lerby, the representative of Mertens, confirmed that he has heard the transfer rumours, but he's put them to bed confirming that there will not be a transfer in the new year.
TalkSport reported via FCInterNews: "I have heard these rumours but there is absolutely nothing concrete."
"We are not talking about these rumours. Dries is not leaving Napoli in January."
Mertens has netted five goals in 12 games so far this season for Napoli.
