The WWE made the decision to have Sheamus cash in his Money in the Bank contract and become the new World Heavyweight Champion at Survivor Series this past Sunday.
The Celtic Warrior defeated Roman Reigns just five minutes after the former Shield member beat Dean Ambrose to win the title, following Seth Rollins' injury earlier this month that left the belt vacated.
The decision to make Sheamus the Champion moving forward was made on the day of the Pay-Per-View after much back and forth. However, we may now know why Vince McMahon and co made that decision - and it's all about Reigns.

Reigns Still Booed
According to a rumor on Cageside Seats, the WWE didn't want to make Roman Reigns the champion because he would still be getting booed despite holding the title.
The Creative Team, however, apparently do have a plan to try and help Reigns get over.
"The idea is to build goodwill prior to his eventual win, not only with angles but also with outside appearances which focus on the man behind the character," the report stated.
Not Completely Over
The WWE have already been doing this for months now and it still hasn't gotten Reigns fully over. You have to start to wonder just how long Vince can keep pushing him as the underdog, considering that Reigns still hasn't lost clean during his entire singles career in the WWE. Not one clean loss in well over a year.
WWE could be doing some exciting things with Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Sheamus right now. Instead, they're sticking to a plan that has failed so far and won't get any better when Randy Orton, John Cena, and Daniel Bryan eventually make their return from injuries and time off.
Honestly, how long can Reigns be kept in this top spot when legitimate stars and fan favorites like Bryan come back? Hopefully, it isn't too long.
