Louis van Gaal has given Luke Shaw four days off after revealing the injured Manchester United left-back is currently a “little bit fed up”.
Shaw has been injured since mid-September, when he suffered a double leg fracture in United’s first Champions League group stage match against PSV Eindhoven.
Van Gaal believes the fact PSV are visiting Old Trafford this week could be a factor behind Shaw’s current mood and has subsequently told the 20-year-old to take a few days off from his recovery process.

“Now he is a little bit fed up with the daily routine so I give him four days off,” the Dutch coach was quoted as saying in his pre-match press conference by the Daily Mail. “I thought, why he is fed up? Maybe it is because of the match of PSV and that every player has to watch the game from the stadium to support their colleagues.
“I don’t think (Shaw will be in the stadium) but I don’t know. Maybe he surprises me. You can always surprise me.”
By the sounds of it, Van Gaal would be pleasantly surprised if Shaw turns up to watch his teammates in action against PSV. It will be interesting to see whether the England international decides to attend the match or opts for a short break away from football instead.
Van Gaal doesn't expect Moreno backlash
Hector Moreno was the player who injured Shaw, but Van Gaal has no concerns that United’s stars might be intent on exacting revenge for Shaw during the game.
“I don’t think that shall be an issue,” he added. “It was not his purpose. In football, it can happen.”
Moreno was heavily criticised for his reckless tackle but apologised after the match and even visited Shaw in hospital.
"I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident,” the Mexican was quoted as saying by BBC Sport at the time. “I feel really sorry."
Shaw is expected to be out of action until the final weeks of the season, but still has an outside chance of playing for England at next summer’s European Championships in France.
