As the transfer window draws closer, speculation is beginning to gather pace of who will be moving where in January.

Manchester United's attack has failed to live up to expectation and the Red Devils will presumably be busy looking for reinforcements for the title run-in.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Old Trafford giants have been linked with a move for Fiorentina winger Borja Valero.

Chief scout Peter Braund was in attendance at St Jakob-Park as the Italian side played out a 2-2 draw with FC Basel.

But, it seems unlikely Valero was the only player on Braund's watchlist. Swiss newspaper Blick have said United are one of many clubs interested in 18-year-old striker Breel Embolo.

And, as the Manchester Evening News so eloquently put it: "Borja Valero is a balding, 30-year-old West Brom reject who has somehow been linked with United."

The likelihood is the Red Devils have their eyes on Embolo, who has scored 26 goals and provided 18 assists since making his debut for Basel in May 2014.

The Cameroonian-born Swiss international is also being followed by Barcelona and Wolfsburg, and Blick claims he will cost between £15 and £20 million.

The teenager has already gained seven caps for the national team since making his debut in March and scored his only goal in a 7-0 win over San Marino.

Embolo is definitely one for the future. He is one of the hottest properties in Europe, but it remains to be seen if he is the answer to United's problem.

Although, Blick are reporting Barcelona are in pole position to land the striker as their sporting director Ariedo Braida was sat in the VIP section on Thursday night.

Manchester United fans, who would you rather see sign for the Red Devils: Borja Valero or Breel Embolo? Let us know by leaving a comment
