Luis Suarez has congratulated Lionel Messi and Neymar on Twitter after his Barcelona teammates were named as two of the three finalists for the 2015 Ballon d’Or.

The Uruguay international, who some fans believe was unfortunate not to make the final three following a superb debut season at the Camp Nou, tweeted a photo of himself, Messi and Neymar celebrating a goal alongside the caption: “Congratulations friends! I'm very proud of you. I'm truly happy.”

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was named as the third and final Ballon d’Or finalist, although Messi is the overwhelming favourite to win the award for a record-breaking fifth time.

Suarez can feel a little hard done-by not to have made the final three after playing an instrumental role in Barcelona’s remarkable success last season.

The 28-year-old scored 25 goals in 43 appearances, including one against Juventus in the Champions League final, as Barça secured another historic treble.

This season, meanwhile, Suarez has already scored 18 goals in 20 appearances and sits ahead of Ronaldo in the race for the Pichichi.

Neymar and Messi deserve to be there

After scoring 39 goals last season - and 16 in 17 matches this term - there’s no doubt that Neymar deserves to be on the final shortlist, and the same applies to the peerless Messi.

As did Ronaldo...

Ronaldo was the one most in danger of not making the podium after failing to secure a major trophy with Real Madrid last season, with the exception of the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, after scoring an extraordinary 61 goals in 54 matches during the 2014-15 campaign, there would have been outcry from the Bernabeu had their star man been omitted.
