After an impressive start to his NBA career, Kristaps Porzingis has already won round the majority of those New York Knicks fans who booed his name on draft night.
And the Latvian rookie may have just persuaded the few stragglers yet to jump aboard the Porzingis hype train with comments made today.
War of words
With the Knicks preparing to face their cross-city rivals the Brooklyn Nets tonight, Porzingis has done his best to fuel the flames of the rivalry.

“I know our fans are better than Brooklyn’s fans,” the 20-year-old told the New York Daily News.
“Sometimes I see someone with a Brooklyn hat on, I say, ‘What is that? You need a Knicks hat,’” he continued. “I joke around with them. Sometimes I see them. Not as many as Knicks fans, though.”
Having only been in the league for 19 games, it clearly hasn't taken long for Porzingis to learn how to make the most of the Battle of the Boroughs.
And, having already put in a host of exhilarating performances during his brief time with the NYC team, the young forward is doing everything right as he looks to become a true franchise star.
Not content with belittling the Nets' fan base, Porzingis also took a shot at the Knicks rival's brand as a whole.
“Everybody knows Knicks but not really the Nets,” he said.
“But yeah, I remember more of the New Jersey Nets than the Brooklyn Nets growing up. But yeah, it’s Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, those kind teams (we heard about in Europe).”
In fairness, with the Nets having only moved over to Brooklyn in 2012 their fans can't really call out the Latvian on this point.
One thing the Nets do have, though, is a four-game winning streak against the Knicks. If Porzingis can play his part in cutting short that run, he will take another step to Knicks stardom.
