Louis van Gaal has called up right-back Guillermo Varela to Manchester United’s first-team squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash against West Ham at Old Trafford.
This is according to the Manchester Evening News, who understand Van Gaal has promoted Varela following the untimely injury to left-back Marcos Rojo. The Argentina international dislocated his shoulder in training this week and it’s currently unclear how long he will be sidelined for.
Varela is yet to make his first-team debut for the Red Devils but has impressed for the Under-21s since returning from his season-long loan spell with Real Madrid Castilla in the summer. (Scroll down this page to watch Varela in action).

A former Uruguay Under-20 international, Varela arrived from Peñarol in 2013 following a successful two-week trial with the Premier League giants. A €2.8 million fee made him the first official signing of David Moyes and he signed a five-year contract.
Varela didn’t feature under Moyes, who had Rafael and Antonio Valencia at his disposal, and was offloaded to Real Madrid’s second-tier side when Van Gaal arrived in the summer of 2014.

Varela impressed Zinedine Zidane
The South American made 33 appearances for Real Madrid Castilla, working under the great Zinedine Zidane, scoring one goal in the process.
Zidane praised the youngster’s professionalism and told reporters that the Manchester United loanee had the talent to become a top player.
"I'm delighted with Guillermo Varela," the French coach was quoted saying by Uruguayan publication Ovaciondigital. "He is very serious and professional, he has a lot of quality and I have no doubts he will make it to the top."
Varela will be on the subs’ bench for United on Saturday - and some fans are hoping to catch a glimpse of the starlet.
