Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool are currently the best team in the Premier League.
The Reds have lost just one game, against Crystal Palace, since Jurgen Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers and sit six points adrift of league leaders Manchester City in sixth place.
Next up for Liverpool is a trip to Newcastle tomorrow afternoon, and with City dropping points against Stoke this afternoon, the Merseyside outfit can close the gap to the top even further.
“I think it is very interesting,” Gerrard told RTE Radio. “At the moment, the way they’re performing, they are the best team in the league. There is a long way to go. If they keep everyone fit, they’ll be involved in the title race.”
With Daniel Sturridge back from injury, Liverpool have a relatively clean bill of health across the board. However, while midfielder Jordan Henderson is able to play, he's forced to do so in pain because of a heel injury.
The former Sunderland man has been told there's no medical cure to his condition, plantar fasciitis, which he'll have to play through having made his first appearance under Klopp last weekend.
“It’s been incredibly difficult, not just for me but for the staff as well,” Henderson said. “With my metatarsal I knew exactly what kind of time scale I’d be out for but with my heel there isn’t a timescale, there isn’t really a cure. That’s been the most difficult part. It’s been hard but I’ve had good people around me like Chris Morgan [the head of physiotherapy] and all the staff here.
"There have been times when I’ve been pretty down because we couldn’t find the answers. Now I’m at a point where I can function, where I can train and start playing some part in games. Hopefully I can continue like that and it will continue to improve.”
