Jose Mourinho has revealed that he was so impressed with Eden Hazard’s performance during the recent 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur that he gave him written feedback.
That’s right, like a school teacher marking the work of a star pupil who is underachieving, Mourinho and his team compiled a dossier of analysis on Hazard’s showing against Spurs - the Special One said he believed it was ‘good’ for the Belgian to receive it.
Hazard wasn’t able to open the scoring for Chelsea, nor successfully pick the Tottenham lock so that his teammates could do so, but, on the whole, the 24-year-old looked far better in the lone striker’s role than he has done for most of this term.
Mourinho impressed with Hazard
Mourinho, it appears, was suitably impressed.
"The performance was good in every aspect, he knows that because he got the feedback," Mourinho said," as relayed by the London Evening Standard.
"He even got written feedback because we analysed his performance in great detail and I felt it was good for him to get the written document and graphics.
"He knows how good he was and hopefully he can build from now. He knows how much we need him."
It’s a good sign, particularly as Hazard has hardly been at the races this season in comparison to campaigns previous.
A poor season
The former Lille man has managed just two assists and no goals in the Premier League - that’s in stark contrast to the nine and 14 he got last year and the seven and 14 he grabbed the year before.
They say form is temporary, class is permanent, and that’s a phrase that most Chelsea fans will be well versed in when having defended Hazard this year. The playmaker is far and away one of the division’s best players when he’s on song and Mourinho won’t have forgotten that.
No passengers needed
However, with the Blues struggling, the Special One can’t afford any passengers in his sides moving forward.
Hazard must get back to his scintillating best or risk getting the chop until he can do so - here’s to hoping he doesn’t need much time.
