Bayern Munich banished the ghost of their last trip to the San Siro by defeating Inter Milan 2-0 to take a huge step towards the second round of the Champions League on Wednesday.

The last time the German champions were in town, they were convincingly beaten 4-1 by AC Milan and knocked out of the Champions League in March.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told PA Sport: "Back then, we lost 4-1 which was shameful, whereas this time Inter may feel a 2-0 defeat is shameful. We are proud and happy, but we have no reason to celebrate just yet."
