Alberto Moreno displays his frustration on Twitter after disallowed goal v Newcastle

Published 10 Comments

You can’t blame Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno for feeling frustrated and disappointed after his sensational goal in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

The Spaniard produced a superb first-time volley over Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliott - what potentially would have been a Goal of the Season contender had it stood - only for the assistant referee to raise his flag.

Replays showed that Moreno was in an onside position when the pass was made - and the full-back made his feelings clear with a series of retweets on his Twitter timeline. Scroll down this page to see his Twitter activity.

Moreno’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, also bemoaned the fact the goal was incorrectly chalked off.

“It was a clear goal, I saw it. No problem,” the German coach told LFC TV, according to the Daily Mail. “When the linesman sees this goal he won't feel good. It was a brilliant goal, goal of the month.”

The 23-year-old was behind the last Newcastle defender when the ball was played but was denied his third Liverpool goal due to some suspect decision-making from the assistant referee.

Real Madrid are keen on Moreno

Moreno is improving all the time under Klopp and Liverpool could face a battle to hold onto the Spain international in 2016.

It was reported last month that Real Madrid are interested in the marauding full-back - with Marcelo unable to keep himself injury-free - and the player’s agent followed those stories up by admitting his client would be open to holding talks with the Spanish giants if their interest is genuine.
