Louis van Gaal claims Manchester United will become champions

Published 7 Comments

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has once again come to fame on social media after the Red Devils failed to beat West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Despite watching his side fail to score against the Hammers, the Red Devils chief insisted that his team will improve and become champions.

After dropping two points on home soil, United currently sit in fourth position in the division - three points behind league leaders Leicester City. In fact, Saturday's stalemate represented the club's fifth 0-0 draw in their last nine games in all competitions.

Van Gaal, though, sent an exciting message to fans, stating: "But, we shall improve and at the end we are the champion. Bye."

The United boss, of course, has a history of engaging with fans outside Old Trafford. It was only a couple of months ago when the enigmatic Dutchman shouted 'Louis van Gaal's red army' to supporters.

But United fans will be worried

Van Gaal may well be optimistic, but United fans won't be getting their hopes up at this stage. Things just haven't been good enough recently. The club's record defensively has been superb, of course, but is that enough for the club to secure the Premier League title? Probably not.

Manchester United FC v VfL Wolfsburg - UEFA Champions League

As an attacking force, United are moderately average. Van Gaal's side lack width and play without risk and freedom. From midfield, the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger aren't going to produce too many goals between them and there's a lack of cohesion between the strikers and the rest of the team.

If Van Gaal is serious about delivering the title to Old Trafford, then he has to change the dynamic of his side. One thing is for sure, with a crunch Champions League clash against Wolfsburg on the horizon this evening, it's not to get any easier for the Dutchman.
