Ronaldo celebrating last night.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Champions League free-kick: Fan footage emerges

Published Add your comment

This is pretty cool; some fan footage of Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick from Real Madrid's huge 8-0 win against Malmo last night in the Champions League has emerged online.

The Portuguese superstar broke yet another goal record at the Bernabeu, by becoming the first player to reach double figures in the Champions League group stages; that number helped out by the small matter of four goals against the Swedish minnows last evening.

One area he has been lacking in though is his free-kicks; Ronaldo had failed to convert his last 20 attempts from dead ball situations.

He changed that last night with a long-range effort that may not have been the prettiest, but was at least pretty effective.

A fan was on hand to record the moment and the interesting footage highlights the flight of the ball and the way in which it bounced under the goalkeeper better than the main broadcast footage, so is worth checking out below.

Despite his success last night, it's been an up-and-down season for Ronaldo so far. In front of goal he remains as good as ever, with 21 in 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

However, Madrid have been struggling as a team and are currently four points off La Liga leaders Barcelona having succumbed to a 4-0 defeat against their Catalan rivals in El Clasico last month.

Numerous reports in Spain have suggested that Ronaldo and his team-mates are unhappy with boss Rafa Benitez amidst claims the winger could be sold, which forced club president Florentino Perez to publicly declare his support for the former Liverpool boss last month, blaming a media conspiracy against him.

He added of the rumours surrounding Ronaldo's future: “Criticisms that are false annoy me. It annoys me that they say that I have met people to sell Ronaldo, that I have said things against Ronaldo. It’s all false. It annoys me that people are against me, but it’s not against me: it is against Madrid. I want to communicate them everything that is designed to destabilise us and more to the point is fault.”

Do you think Ronaldo will be sold at the end of the season?
