On a rollercoaster evening for Manchester United, the Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League last night as they were beaten at the hands of German counterparts Wolfsburg.
Louis van Gaal's side just weren't good enough on the night despite a spirited performance against the Bundesliga outfit.
At one stage, however, United looked on course to reach the Round of 16 of the competition. They may well have been trailing at the time, but were on course to secure second place in Group B with 14 minutes remaining.

That's because Sergei Ignashevich had given CSKA Moscow the lead from the penalty spot against PSV. United weren't doing their job, but it didn't matter as PSV were failing to produce the goods on home soil.
And one Manchester United fan account on Twitter jumped the gun, suggesting that the Red Devils had secured their place in the next round. Wrong.
Champions League elimination
United, despite equalising in Germany, went on to lose 3-2 while PSV produced a dramatic turnaround, scoring twice in the final 12 minutes to claim second spot.
Van Gaal's side, then, will have to prepare for Europa League football in the New Year, and Liverpool fans took great joy in trolling the United fan account in the aftermath of last night's result.
Liverpool fans react
The Old Trafford faithful won't want to be there, but the club will now be hoping to secure Europa League silverware this season. Ultimately, the competition represents a realistic chance for Van Gaal to secure his first trophy as the club's manager.
It won't be easy, of course; Premier League rivals Tottenham and Liverpool will be hoping to stop United while Arsenal could join the trio in the competition if they fail to produce the required result against Olympiakos tonight.
But if Van Gaal wants to keep his job, he may well have to deliver a trophy sooner rather than later. The Europa League wouldn't have been on the radar at the start of the campaign, but they shouldn't disregard the competition at this stage.
