Raheem Sterling began his successful senior career at Liverpool, bagging 23 goals in 129 appearances and quickly winning the hearts of the Anfield faithful.

Subsequently, the England winger joined Manchester City in the summer for a staggering £50 million which piled pressure on the 21-year-old to become a hero at the Etihad.

And so far he hasn't let them down, netting eight goals in 22 appearances including a double against German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Tuesday night which saw the Blues progress after finishing top of Group D, one point ahead of second-placed Juventus.

The winger has clearly shown the supporters what he is made of in his opening five months at Etihad, leaving Liverpool fans frustrated with the progression the youngster has made with his new team.

Liverpool have struggled to keep their top stars from departing the football club in recent years - much to the fans' discontent.

Sterling joined a list of big names such as Dirk Kuyt, Jose Reina, Luis Suarez and Daniel Agger - who have all left the club in the previous three seasons.

Liverpool's struggles in the few years haven't been helped by the constant thought of their current stars potentially leaving the club.

Prior to Sterling's exit, he left the Reds’ fans furious with how he manufactured a move away, rejecting big money contracts before completing a deal with Manuel Pellegrini’s side in July.

Sterling's pace and directness were his biggest assets at Anfield and the change of environment hasn’t stopped that from happening.

Furthermore, by combining with the world-class talent of Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure, Sterling has quickly become a hit with the City faithful.

A standout performance from the 21-year-old came back in October, where the winger smashed home a delightful hat-trick against Premier League strugglers Newcastle United - leaving his previous fans distraught with his new ray of light.

Sterling also produced a stunning performance against Monchengladbach at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday coincidently on the youngster’s birthday.

Prior to his two goals, Sterling grabbed an assist to bring City back on level terms as his backheel played in Spaniard David Silva who expertly fired home the equaliser.

The England international later snatched two vital goals and was deservedly awarded the man of the match award for his superb performance.

To rub salt into the Liverpool wounds further, Sterling took to Instagram to claim it was the “best day of his career” suggesting that it topped some of the spectacular moments he had during his time in a Reds shirt.

Manchester City face Swansea City at the weekend and with his extraordinary form, Etihad's newest star is likely to reap the rewards for his sky-high confidence.
