Arnold Peralta killed in Honduras shooting

Former Rangers midfielder Arnold Peralta has been shot dead while on holiday in La Ceiba, Honduras.

This is according to multiple sources including BBC News, who understand the 26-year-old was assassinated in a car park of a shopping centre on the county’s Caribbean coast on Thursday.

The motive for the attack is unclear at this stage while no arrests have been made.

Peralta, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2013 before leaving in January after his contract was terminated by mutual consent, had been due to play for the Honduras national team in a friendly against Cuba next week.

He played for the Scottish Premier League side 24 times, scoring one goal in the process, before returning to his home country and joining Olimpia earlier this year.

The murder of Peralta has been described as a "tragic death that the national sport mourns" by director of the Honduran football federation, Osman Madrid.
