Melo in trouble.

Felipe Melo sent off for neck kick challenge

Published 4 Comments

Felipe Melo endured a torrid time on Sunday evening as Inter Milan were beaten at the hands of Lazio.

During a ferocious Serie A encounter, Roberto Mancini's side failed to extend their advantage at the top of the league after a 2-1 reverse.

And it was Melo who stole the show for all the wrong reasons. The experienced Brazilian midfielder initially gave away a penalty and was later sent off for a shocking challenge.

Incredibly, Melo produced somewhat of a neck kick on Lucas Biglia and was rightly dismissed by the referee.

As you can see in the video below, the challenge really wasn't something you would expect to see on the field of play. Clearly, with the final whistle approaching, Melo let his frustrations get the better of him.

However, it wasn't the final controversial act of the night, as Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was also shown a red card in stoppage time.

Despite sitting at the summit of the table, the festive break will be a slightly sour one for Mancini's side. One thing is for sure, after the horror tackle, Melo will face an extended period on the sidelines.
