Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to make a move for a defender in the January transfer window after news that Martin Skrtel could be set for an extended period on the sidelines.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that Skrtel could be out for up to three months with a hamstring injury. The experienced defender has already undergone a scan and medics are fearing the worst as they await for results.
This latest injury setback for the Merseyside outfit is set to leave Klopp with just Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho as recognised first-team central defenders.

Unsurprisingly, then, the charismatic coach could bring in reinforcements next month. In fact, the same report claims that Klopp will target his former Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.
However, despite Subotic's recent struggles under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel in the Bundesliga, it's far from certain as to whether the club will opt to sell him to Liverpool.
Subotic would no doubt make a fine signing for the Reds, who have struggled defensively for some time. They certainly failed to prove their credentials against Watford on Sunday as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at Vicarage Road.
Despite Klopp's inconsistent start to life as manager of Liverpool, it appears that he's not going to panic with the transfer window on the horizon, but he could yet add to his squad in pursuit of climbing the Premier League table.
With a number of England's elite sides struggling, including Manchester United and Chelsea, Liverpool still hold a great chance of securing a top-four finish this term, but they must get back on track sooner rather than later.
