Man United fan and Ballon d'Or presenter James Nesbitt plans Cristiano Ronaldo return

Actor James Nesbitt plans to lure Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United at January's Ballon d'Or ceremony.

The Hobbit star will be presenting FIFA's prestigious awards ceremony in Zurich as the world's best player from 2015 will be crowned.

Lionel Messi is expected to be the runaway winner and claim the prize for a the fifth time, however, life-long Red Devils fan Nesbitt is more interested in the current holder, Ronaldo.

The Portuguese left Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2009 and has gone on to become the club's all-time record goalscorer. However, there are suggestions his time in the Spanish capital could be reaching an end. 

And Nesbitt, who will present the awards ceremony alongside Sky Sports' Kate Abdo, revealed his plan for luring Ronaldo back to the Theatre of Dreams.

As per the Mirror, he said: "I'm taking a shirt with Ronaldo's name and number on it, and hopefully he'll put it on and get on the plane back with me."

United has been sounded out as a possible destination for the three-time Ballon d'Or winner should Real Madrid decide it is time to recoup some of their £80 million outlay from six years prior.

Ronaldo has previously stated his desire to end his career at the Bernabeu, however, Los Blancos could be tempted into looking towards a future without their talismanic number seven.

If that were the case, there would not be shortage of clubs queuing up to sign the 30-year-old.
