Itami has been out with an injury.

Four potential feuds for Hideo Itami upon his WWE NXT return

Published Add your comment

There’s been a lot of focus on the main roster injury crisis with some big names being forced to sit on the sidelines, from Seth Rollins to Cesaro, to Daniel Bryan.

However, before the main roster was hit with the injury bug, it was NXT who had to deal with numerous injuries as well. Guys like Alex Riley, Hideo Itami and Sami Zayn all sustained serious injuries which have seen them miss months of in-ring action.

Not only that, Kevin Owens, Neville, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch have all moved up to the main roster this year, and a significant gap opened up on NXT.

The NXT stars have done a fantastic job of putting on great shows with so many casualties, and now Itami is edging closer to a return which has left the fans excited, here are the best possible return feuds for Itami on NXT.

I don’t think Samoa Joe’s quest to capture the NXT Championship is over just yet, and it’s clear Itami will be looking for a championship match as well, which means the two men could be set for a collision course.

Both men have fantastic, contrasting styles which could make for some epic matches, and the fans will be split between the two as they’re popular with the NXT fans, and they both deserve to be the champion.

It makes sense in a storyline as well now that Joe is a heel; there’s no way somebody like Samoa Joe will sit back and allow a returning superstar to steal his limelight.

This is an interesting one as Crews now faces an uphill battle to get to the NXT Championship as he was bested by Baron Corbin at NXT TakeOver: London.

Where better to start rebuilding than by taking out one of the biggest and most established names in Itami? The two are going to clash sooner or later, and their matches should be ones where they could sell thousands of seats at a TakeOver event.

They are both faces – for now – so the fans won’t know who to side with, but that’s fine. Crews has his fans, and Itami has his fans and you can bet they’d be out in full force supporting their favourites and to see who the better man is.

It’s now only a question of when Corbin will receive his NXT Championship match against Finn Balor. Corbin has defeated everyone that has stepped in his way, and he even defeated Crews at TakeOver earlier this month.

It only seems right that he’s granted a fair opportunity but we know what happens on NXT, a spanner is always thrown in the works, and it could be Itami who is the final hurdle in Corbin’s quest to the top.

This feud would also help Corbin as Itami is vastly experienced and great in the ring so he could help Corbin look ready for a championship match. With so much support for Itami, it means it allows Corbin to continue this great heel run he is going on and it assists his character development in the long-run.

It also acts as a great tune-up feud for Itami, rather than jumping into the big one that we all are desperate to see…

A Finn Balor and Itami feud is one that fans have been wanting to see for quite some time now as we know the unique chemistry the two of them share. In fact, Itami was the one that introduced Balor to the NXT Universe as he attempted to bring down The Ascension, so there’s quite a nice story to tell with it.

We know what happened with Itami being attacked in the parking lot – this was to write him off NXT television due to his injury – and to this day we won’t know who his mystery attacker was. That same night Itami was set to face Tyler Breeze and Balor in a triple threat match with the winner receiving an NXT Championship match.

You can see where I’m going with this; perhaps this would be the perfect time to reveal Balor as the attacker and turn him heel. This helps Itami enter the main event scene right away and work with someone he’s comfortable around.

The last thing they want is to have Itami struggle upon his return considering how much hype there was surrounding his arrival.
