It's almost the end of 2015 which means only one thing, the Royal Rumble is around the corner and WWE need to make it count.
The Royal Rumble sets the tone for the entire year given that it is the beginning of the Road to WrestleMania and last years didn't exactly go to plan.
ROYAL RUMBLE DISAPPOINTMENT
It wasn't just the 2015 Royal Rumble that was a disappointment as Batista's return and predictable win back in 2014 was also a sour note for the year and it was lucky that the CM Punk saga and eventual Daniel Bryan push managed to paper over the cracks.

Sadly it was not the same this year as the Philadelphia crowd not only booed Roman Reigns when he won the Rumble at the second time of asking, but they also booed his cousin The Rock when he made his way to the ring to celebrate with Reigns.
WrestleMania was stepped up both years to give the WWE Universe something to cheer about once again as Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins left WrestleMania 30 and 31 respectively with the Championships.

WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN THIS YEAR?
WWE have not had the best of years when it comes to ratings so they will be hoping that 2016 is a step forward.
Given that the Company has now awarded Roman Reigns the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, he will instead be part of a championship match and not be involved in the Royal Rumble, he will be the first person to walk into the Rumble with the title, the year after he won the opportunity for it, since Edge in 2011.
Rusev does seem the most predictable option now that he is part of The League of Nations and has already benefited from a good push this year, that being said, it would make a lot of sense for WWE to bring up someone like Sami Zayn or Baron Corbin and allow them the opportunity to fight for the shot at WrestleMania.
WWE needs to listen to the fans, they need to ensure that they don't make the same mistake as last year and have them booing all the way through because the most over superstar is taken out early.
The Company will now know who they want to win so they have a few weeks to build them up so that the WWE Universe can accept them before they are forced to endure their push to WrestleMania. This year needs to be a success and NXT superstars could well be the key.
