Tour de France winner Chris Froome says receiving an OBE is the perfect way to cap off an "amazing" 2015.

The 30-year-old Team Sky rider, who welcomed his first child a fortnight ago, won the yellow jersey for the second time in July and has been recognised in the New Year's Honours List.

Froome's Tour de France triumph came in adversity amid constant accusations of doping and he was even subject to a spectator throwing urine at him.

He thrived, though, and became the first rider since 1970 to win the yellow and polka dot - for winning the mountains classification - jerseys.

"It feels fantastic, it really has been an amazing year, both professionally and personally," Froome told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It is an amazing way to cap the year off.

"It was a trying year, it didn't come without it's difficulties.

"We took a lot of criticism and hostility from certain sectors but it really was a fantastic year.

"How that pulled us together as a group, how the team performed as a unit was great. I wouldn't have been able to do what I did without the support of such a strong team."

Froome is looking forward to an even better 2016 and is targeting a third success in France followed up by more glory in the Rio Olympics.

" I am 30 years old at the minute, I definitely feel as if I have got a few years left at least," he added.

"I want to concentrate on the Tour de France next year and, being an Olympic year, it would be incredible to go on from the Tour de France to Rio and give that my all."
