Footballers aren't exactly known for their fashion sense (we're thinking the 'Spice Boys' suits and David Beckham's sarong here) so it's no surprise that one or two got it wrong as the clock ticked down and 2016 began.
However you'd expect two of the very best to know better, right? Well that certainly wasn't the case as both Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Neymar demonstrated why their skill and flair lays on the pitch rather than on the catwalk.
Ronaldo got things started when he uploaded a picture of himself before midnight, rocking a white suit and pale blue tie. He looks like a fashionista's man from Del Monte. The sleazy grin probably doesn't help either.
But, just when we thought we had a nailed on winner for worst dressed, along came Neymar. The Brazilian Ballon d'Or finalist went one step further with white trousers and a jacket that wouldn't be out of place in a Michael Jackson video circa 1983. His accessories included a hat and UFC ring girl Jhenny Andrade as he toasted the new year in Barcelona.
Who wore it better? Actually, we don't care really - they both look terrible.
It was party time around Europe as the best and brightest (and Manchester United) celebrated the end of 2015 and the start of a new year.
Gareth Bale was out with his wife, while the entire Lampard clan went undercover in disguise. Louis van Gaal led his Red Devils in celebration (of what, we're not sure) as his squad got together for a meal to see in 2016, which Matteo Darmain captured wonderfully.
However the winner of the night has to be Mario Balotelli, who warned his followers to be careful of fireworks on the big night. If only he had taken his own advice in 2011....
