The 2015 Slammy Awards are in the books with some questionable winners walking out with trophies. NXT fans were vocal about how the brand wasn’t represented properly at the Slammy Awards, but it looks as if the WWE are making sure the stars of NXT are appreciated.
The WWE have officially announced the first ever end of year awards for NXT and act as NXT’s Slammy Awards in the hope of making it an annual tradition, and that will almost certainly be the case if NXT has another successful year.
Much like the Slammy Awards, the fans will decide who they want to see walk out as the worthy winners and votes can be cast on WWE.com starting on New Year’s Day. Once the votes have been calculated, we can all tune into the WWE Network on January 13 for a special edition of NXT where the awards will be presented to the winners.
Here are the six categories you can vote for – and the likely winners.

OVERALL COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR
It looks as if they won’t be differentiating between the men and the women which is great to see. Of course, there will be awards to honour the best male and female star but it will be interesting to see who the NXT fans believe has had an outstanding year.
I believe it will come down to two stars, you’re talking either Finn Balor or Bayley – the current NXT and NXT Women’s Champions.
They’ve had brilliant years, and they’re incredibly popular with the fans. Bayley won’t come as a surprise, but it will be interesting to see if Sami Zayn can pip Balor to the award.
MALE COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR
Again, it will probably come down to the same two superstars who the fans just can’t help but love. The fact that Balor and Zayn are two of the most popular guys on the roster means they’ll be hard to dislodge as the favourites.
Regardless of how talented they are I doubt the fans will vote for Samoa Joe, Baron Corbin or even Apollo Crews, the latter being one of the newest arrivals but he has certainly made an impact.
If we go back further to see who enjoyed a good first half of the year on NXT, then Kevin Owens could be in with a shout but based on popularity you’re looking at either Balor or Zayn.
FEMALE COMPETITOR OF THE YEAR
Bayley has to be the favourite for this award. She’s been the most consistent female on NXT this year, her matches have been fantastic, and she’s easily the most popular star on NXT.
She has the fans invested in her anywhere she goes which shows just how unique she is, we have seen newer females trying to make a similar impact in the form of Dana Brooke and Asuka, but I feel Bayley has had a better year as a whole and has had more time and opportunities to press.
The likes of Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch will probably also be considering and could prove to be tough competition.
TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR
This one is probably a tough award to hand out as no team has made a huge impact compared to the likes of Balor and Bayley as we’ve seen the Tag Team Championship change hands a few times this year.
Based on popularity we should expect this award to go to Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and they have been over with the crowd since they debuted. They haven’t won the championships though so maybe that could be a deterrent; this means Jason Jordan and Chad Gable’s late push in 2015 could help them pick up the award.
MATCH OF THE YEAR
This award has to go to the Sasha Banks vs. Bayley match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. There was a lot at stake heading into this particular TakeOver as it was the first outside of Full Sail University and it was Banks and Bayley who stole the show.
It was a real underdog story, and an amazing match between two of the finest talent produced on NXT, and you can still go back and watch it now and feel just how much that win meant to Bayley.
That match was a real key moment in showing that they’ve arrived, and the future is bright for the Diva’s division. I think the closest competitor will be the clash between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, but I expected Banks and Bayley to take this one with ease.
TAKEOVER OF THE YEAR
NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn has to win this award. It was the first outside of the usual location in Florida and that alone showed the progress NXT has made as 16,000 fans packed out the Barclay’s Center.
It was a great experience as a whole as you could tell the fans were invested in the show from start to finish. We got to see the legend Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger compete against Tyler Breeze, Balor and Owens put on a fantastic main event, and we know what Banks and Bayley achieved too.
Not only that, every match told a story, and we saw the debut of Apollo Crews. It was a huge milestone and one that paid off.
Keep an eye out on WWE.com to cast your votes for who you think should win.
