Well, that was a confusing couple of hours, but it appears those widespread reports were right. Rafa Benitez is no longer the manager of Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane has taken over.
President Florentino Perez was brief in his press conference, immediately confirming what we already knew to be true before handing over the football legend, who has been in charge of Real Madrid's B Team Castilla since 2014.
Castilla, of course, is a proper club in the Spanish football pyramid, but Real Madrid represents Zidane's first real job in management. Although it is a natural appointment for those who support the club, on paper it looks like a crazy decision.
