United prefer Giggs to Mourinho
Real Madrid attracted criticism from the world of football yesterday when they sacked Rafael Benitez in favour of the very green Zinedine Zidane, but reports suggest that Manchester United could soon follow suit.
The Daily Mail speculate that if Louis van Gaal leaves, Ryan Giggs, and not Jose Mourinho, could be appointed as his replacement.
At the moment, Van Gaal has the support of Ed Woodward and the board, but his popularity with fans has dramatically waned.

Smalling on transfers
Elsewhere, Chris Smalling has admitted that he’s kept motivated by the possibility of always being replaced.
The England international insisted much and more could happen in any given transfer window at Old Trafford - safe to say he probably won’t be going anywhere, though.

Last, but not least, Real’s decision to axe Benitez could have repercussions for them involving Gareth Bale in the transfer market.
The Times report that the Welshman had previously informed Florentino Perez of a desire to work under Benitez and will, therefore, be less than happy with his exit.
How is that connected to United, you ask? Well, as often as I make cups of coffee have the Old Trafford outfit been linked with the Welshman. If he’s unhappy it could well set a cog in motion that produces a mega-money deal.
