John Cena and New Day headline 3 WWE Predictions for 2016

Published 8 Comments

2016 is setting up to be a very interesting year for the WWE.

Plans are in place for WrestleMania 32 to be the biggest 'Mania of all time with The Rock already confirmed to be making an appearance, while Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Cesaro and Randy Orton all have epic returns to make.

And then there's the multiple stars in NXT that have the chance to make a huge impact on the main roster - with Sami Zayn, Bayley and Finn Balor all leading candidates to become major WWE superstars. So, here are three big predictions for WWE in 2016.

1) The Bullet Club Reunites

Last night, the shocking news broke that the WWE could be set to sign both AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura from New Japan Pro Wrestling in the upcoming weeks, with Styles potentially making his debut at the Royal Rumble at the end of the month.

But, that isn't all, as Styles and Nakamura could be joined by fellow Bullet Club - a Gaijin-dominated heel faction in NJPW - members Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson in the WWE or NXT.

This all points to a reformation with the original leader of the Bullet Club, Prince Devitt, better known as the current NXT Champion, Finn Balor.

The Bullet Club in WWE or NXT would be guaranteed money, Balor already sells tonnes of 'Balor Club' merch and this would only boost it. A faction filled with charismatic and talented stars - pretty much the opposite of the League of Nations - would be perfect for NXT and maybe even on RAW and SmackDown full time.

2) John Cena breaks Ric Flair's record

The only real surprise here is that Cena didn't break Flair's record of World Championship wins in 2015. With Cena holding the United States title it kept him away from Rollins, Reigns and the title, but that all should change in the next 12 months as Cena looks set to get back into the main event picture.

Cena currently has 15 World title reigns to his record, compared to Flair's 16, so needs to win it, then drop the title and go on to win it again all within 12 months. It's a big reach but nothing is impossible when it comes to Big Match John and the WWE title.

Cena had an incredible run with the United States Championship last year, his open challenge was always a highlight of RAW, but surely he won't be happy that far down the card for too much longer.

3) The New Day Break Up

Like a very large portion of the IWC, I am a massive mark for New Day. I would be gutted if the WWE's best tag team, nay stable, broke up - but it is surely coming.

The downfall of the most entertaining team of the past five years will have to come eventually, and it's almost certainly happening this year.

How does it go down? Well, there's only one way to make it happen - and that's with the jealousy and in-fighting that comes when one member of the trio wins a title. Big E, Kofi, or even Xavier end up getting the United States Championship around their waist and immediately lord it over the other two, causing a beatdown that ends New Day as we know it.
