Chelsea are set to battle London rivals Tottenham for the signature of Belgium international Axel Witsel.
This has been reported by the Daily Mail, who claim that the Zenit St Petersburg midfielder is ready to leave Russia during the January transfer window.
Witsel, 26, is also on the radar of Italian outfit AC Milan, but it appears that he would favour a move to the Premier League.

With Tottenham in place to secure a top four finish, the report from the Mail claims the north London outfit are the favourites to sign Witsel.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have endured a torrid season and look all but set to miss out on a place in next year's Champions League competition.
That could lead Witsel to Spurs, who will be desperate to return to Europe's elite competition after a lengthy absence. Witsel would certainly make a fine coup for the London duo, but it's unlikely that he will be available on the cheap.
In fact, the Mail claim that Zenit want to recuperate as much as the £30 million they paid for the midfielder in 2012.
Chelsea must act
It certainly looks set to be an interesting period for Chelsea and Tottenham, but the former must act sooner rather than later.
Ultimately, after a nightmare opening half to the season at Stamford Bridge, Guus Hiddink must improve his side in pursuit of success. The Blues are in need of freshening up and their new manager has to change the dynamic of his side sooner rather than later.
Witsel would be a start, of course, but he will be well aware that he needs to sign two or three top names over the coming weeks.
