John Cena made his return to WWE last week on Raw and proved that he was not returning to make up numbers, by going straight after the man who dethroned him as United States Champion, Alberto Del Rio.
Even though Cena failed to recapture the championship in the subsequent match, it seems that he could be set to regain it in the coming weeks.
CENA ABOUT TO MAKE HISTORY?
The focal point of 2015 was the fact that if Cena won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship one more time, then he would equal Ric Flair's 16-time record. The WWE Universe was vocal about their displeasure with this.

Whilst the focus was on the World Championship, Cena was busy winning the United States Championship and making history by being the first person to hold it five times under the WWE banner, but Flair owns the record for six reigns overall, and Cena could be about to equal that too.
It seems that Del Rio and Cena could be set to collide one more time at the Royal Rumble with the US Title on the line, but this time, Cena could be taking the title home.

A CANADIAN CHALLENGER?
Once Cena is holding the US Championship again, WWE can bring up former NXT Champion Sami Zayn and the two can then have the lengthy rivalry they were denied when Zayn suffered a shoulder injury before his US Championship match with Cena last year.
Sami returned to competition at NXT TakeOver: London a few weeks ago, and he should be well and truly back in his element by Fastlane. WWE could take advantage of this and call the Canadian wrestler up to the main roster.
While Cena didn't feature on Raw this week, he did feature on SmackDown, and even though he is looking for a lighter work schedule now he has other commitments, WWE could offer him that while he has the championship. Cena would be happy to help put Zayn over and give back to the company that have allowed him to keep the spotlight for 14 years.
Cena going down to being a part-time superstar opens up a lot of opportunities for many current main roster and NXT talents, and now is the time for WWE to allow them to show that they have what it takes.
