Tampa Bay Buccaneers sack Lovie Smith after Black Monday

Published Add your comment

He survived Black Monday, but Lovie Smith couldn’t survive the first week of the New Year as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers tweeted news of his sacking, which has naturally come as a bit of a shock, with players reacting badly. Linebacker Lavonte David was particularly vocal, describing the decision as stupid - the sacking means Tampa Bay have now had three coaches in the last five years. Meanwhile, Calvin Johnson is contemplating his future in the NFL and word has it the wide receiver could well retire. The 30-year-old has now played nine years in the league and said he would expect to have a concrete decision in the near future. It will be bad news for the Detroit Lions if he does call it a day.
