Ever since Jurgen Klopp arrived to take charge of Liverpool, they have been linked with a wide variety of Bundesliga stars. Having spent his entire career as a manager within his native Germany, it seemed only natural that Klopp would, at least, attempt to bring some of his favourite stars with him.
According to Bild reporter Jorg Weiler, who enjoyed a close relationship with Klopp when he was in charge of Borussia Dortmund, claims there is one player who stands head and shoulders above the rest in his eyes.
That man is Mario Gotze.

The 23-year-old was fast-tracked into Borussia Dortmund's first-team by Klopp when he was just 18 and played a key role in their title-winning campaign in the 2010/11 season. He would go on to play for Germany whilst still a teenager and become one of the world's most sought-after stars.
It must have been hard for Klopp to see Gotze jump at the chance to join Bayern Munich in 2013, but it seems they have retained a close relationship in the meantime. As a result, Gotze is the one player Klopp would choose to bring to Liverpool over anyone else.
However, there is little suggestion from Weiler's article that he will attempt to sign him without some significant encouragement. Bayern Munich would demand no less than €50m for the Germany international and their financial position means they have no pressure to sell.
Gotze has certainly struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola, starting just four Bundesliga games this season, but it would still be a big decision for Gotze to swap to juggernauts of Bayern Munich for Europea League favourites Liverpool.
There is also the possibility that Carlo Ancelotti will deem Gotze a key player and invite him back into the starting XI when he takes charge in the summer. If he doesn't, Klopp looks more than ready to pounce.
