Liverpool are in talks to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano claims that Sampdoria have made a loan bid for Ranocchia, but Inter would rather offload the player to Liverpool.
Ranocchia, 27, would certainly make a fine coup for Reds chief Jurgen Klopp, who is in desperate need of adding defensive reinforcements to his squad.

The defender, who is a full Italy international, has a great deal of experience and still has so much to offer the game.
Liverpool, of course, have a number of key players on the sidelines, with the quartet of Kolo Toure, Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho all currently unavailable.
Liverpool in need
It's not entirely surprising, then, that the charismatic Klopp looks set to enter the January transfer window in an attempt to add to his back-line.
It certainly looks set to be an interesting period for the Liverpool boss, who will be well aware that he has to add to his squad sooner rather than later.
As it stands, the injuries really could harm the club in their pursuit of a top-four finish, so it's crucial that the dynamic changes in the transfer window.
