Branislav Ivanovic has endured a pretty dreadful season so far, but that has not deterred Chelsea from offering the versatile full-back a contract extension.
The Times understand that Ivanovic has agreed terms on a new deal and is likely to sign the one-year extension next month. He will also have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months if he plays a certain number of matches during the 2016-17 campaign.
Ivanovic wanted a two-year deal but Chelsea’s policy of only offering one additional year to players over the age of 30 means the Serbia international has been forced to settle for a contract with slightly less security.

Some Chelsea fans, however, are not happy with the news.
Many believe that Ivanovic is now past his best and should have been allowed to leave Stamford Bridge once his contract was due to expire this summer. Check out the tweets below.

Chelsea fans fear Ola Aina departure
As you can see, some Chelsea supporters are concerned that Ivanovic’s contract extension could lead the departure of talented England Under-21 right-back Ola Aina.
The Mirror have reported that the 19-year-old has been demoted to the Blues’ U21 side as he has refused to put pen-to-paper on a new contract. His current deal expires in the summer and Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs keen to secure his services.
Ivanovic, who turns 32 next month, will need to improve his performance levels in order to convince fans that Chelsea have made the right decision by offering him a new deal.
