They finally appointed his replacement on Thursday as they promoted their former offensive co-ordinator Dirk Koetter to the vacant head coach role.
Koetter was hired as the OC of the Buccaneers before the 2015 season and helped the team progress with a new rookie quarterback.
He will now take over the head coaches job in Tampa with the big task of challenging their rivals in the NFC South.
With the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons both making big strides this season, Koetter's first season as an NFL head coach will throw up some big challenges.
Buccaneers fans do have a lot to be hopeful for though with the likes of Winston, Doug Martin, Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson in their offense.
Their defense was 10th in the league in terms of yards allowed and with their strong offense, they have a chance at ending their nine year play-off draught.
In the meantime, the Buccaneers have the craziness of free agency and the 2016 NFL draft to go through to try and strengthen their team.
The NFC South of 2016 holds a lot of promise with the almost undefeated Carolina Panthers still having hopes of a Super Bowl championship this season.
The Atlanta Falcons whose defense had a lot of weaknesses towards the end of the regular season will obviously aim to strengthen during the off-season.
Meanwhile the New Orleans Saints could be set to lose their top name with quarterback Drew Brees set to hit free agency.
