The Togolese striker was lured away from the Emirates Stadium by the Citizens’ mega-money offer but only made 45 appearances for the Manchester-based club.
Following a loan spell with Real Madrid, Adebayor found himself at Tottenham after Harry Redknapp decided to take a punt on the 6ft 3in forward - and the former Spurs boss revealed a classic story involving the 31-year-old live on BT Sport’s Fletch & Sav show this morning.

“The worst player on a Friday used to get a £50 fine to pay to the local charity, a kid’s hospice, and he never paid his,” Redknapp explained. “Sebastien Bassong said to him ‘come on, Ade, you earn £200,000-a-week and you ain’t paid £50 in for the charity for being the worst player last week’.
“He said ‘don’t insult me, I earn 225!”
Clubs should think carefully before signing Adebayor
Redknapp’s story just goes to show how much money Manchester City wasted on Adebayor - and why the striker is probably not that desperate to return to work after his contract was terminated by mutual consent at Tottenham earlier this season.
Adebayor has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace - Alan Pardew, per BBC Sport, admitted his interest during Friday’s press conference - but any club will surely be wary about signing the striker due to his questionable track record.
