The best part of Manchester United's win against Liverpool today? No, not Rooney's goal. Or David de Gea's man of the match performance. Or the satisfaction felt by Red Devils' fans at getting one over on Liverpool at Anfield.
It was in fact Phil Jones' reaction to Rooney's winner. What a hero.
The Manchester United defender was not included in Louis van Gaal's matchday squad after being ruled out through injury, along with midfielder Michael Carrick.
Instead of taking up their places inside a corporate box, the pair were spotted watching the game from amongst the travelling supporters at Anfield, which caused quite a stir.
Proving that, despite all the money and fame, at heart he's just a fan, Jones couldn't contain his delight as he celebrated Rooney's powerful close-range shot with his fellow Manchester United fans. You can check out the video below.
Jones took to Twitter not long after the final whistle had blown, congratulating his team-mates on a hard-fought three points.
The win moves Louis van Gaal's side to within touching distance of the top four, with just two points separating them from Tottenham in fourth.
The Dutch boss kept the same starting line-up that drew with Newcastle earlier this week, and that decision looked to have backfired as a much fresher-looking Liverpool side took the early imitative.
Both Jordan Henderson and James Milner had chances to break the deadlock but couldn't get past De Gea, and they were made to pay late on as Rooney slammed home from close range to maintain his recent superb run of form.
"In the second half we kept the ball better, said Van Gaal afterwards. "That's why we came into the match, created chances and scored."
