South Africa have confirmed Dale Steyn will miss this week's final Test against England after failing to recover from his shoulder injury.

The world's number one ranked team has already lost the series to Alastair Cook's tourists, with frontline fast bowler Steyn missing both the drawn second Test in Cape Town and England's victory in Johannesburg which gave Cook's side an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Cricket South Africa confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Steyn will not be fit in time for the final match of four, starting at Centurion on Friday.

"Dale Steyn has not recovered from a shoulder injury and will not be available for selection for the last Test, and all efforts will be made to have him ready for the one-day international series starting at the end of the month," a Cricket South Africa release said.
