UEFA have said they will not stand in the way of any club that wants to leave its organisation but has warned any that do that they could be thrown out of their domestic leagues.
The statement follows reports that the G14 clubs have considered breaking away to form a rival tournament to the Champions League although those reports have been denied. In a strongly worded statement released to PA Sport on Thursday, European football´s governing body also defends its position on ensuring players are released to play for their national teams.
In a clear reference to the G14 - although the organisation is not referred to by name - the statement reads: "Football is about fairness, opportunity, excitement and variety. It is not (sic) closed shop where only the richest and most powerful are invited to the table."
