Roman Reigns, until Sunday at least, is at the top of the WWE ladder as the company's Heavyweight Champion. His rise to the top, however, hasn't exactly been smooth sailing.
It has been obvious for well over a year now that the WWE hierarchy has Reigns pinned as the future face of the company, and skeptical fans haven't always reacted well to having the former Shield member forced upon them.

“I’m not John Cena. I want to be Roman Reigns...I want to do things my way,” he said in an interview with CraveOnline.
“I’m not John Cena. In my 30 years, I’ve never been John Cena. I don’t even think about becoming him. I just want to be. I want to be Roman Reigns. I want to do things my way. I think that’s why I’m in the deep water with Vince McMahon and The Authority.”
Reigns might not want to admit it, and credit to him for trying to forge his own path, but there are definitely similarities between himself and Cena.
Both he and the 15-time champion have been taken under the wing of WWE CEO Vince McMahon during their careers and have been given every opportunity to shine as a result.
Moreover, Reigns' rapid rise to the top has coincided with Cena's move away from the title picture - making the comparisons obvious.
Whether he is able to escape the shadow of Cena and become the very best on his own terms remains to be seen.
What is clear, though, is that despite Reigns and Vince McMahon being at each other's throats on screen in recent weeks, the WWE's boss is a firm favorite of The Big Dog. Reigns might not like it, but he is being set up to take over Cena's mantle as the top face.
